He was probably one of the best "character actors" of all time.

An impressive body of work.
I remember Repo Man, one of my favorite B movies.

Eight different characters on Gunsmoke supports your comment.

Also, I watch Escape fom New York at every opportunity, but I most admit I watch because
of Kurt Russel as Snake Plikksen.

I love Escape from New York (basically anything John Carpenter).

I would also say he was great in Pretty in Pink and, weirdly, Repo Man.

Oh, also Alien...but that's kind of a no brainer.
